Chlamydia and gonorrhea were declared to be at epidemic levels in Douglas County in 2004.
Rates are highest among persons ages 15-29 years old.

More than 4,000 cases of Sexually Transmitted Diseases were reported in Douglas County in 2008.
Chlamydia is No. 1 STD in Douglas County
- Omaha ranked 12th nationally in the 2007 “Big Cities Health Inventory” for Chlamydia incident rates.
- The county’s Chlamydia rate is double the Nebraska rate and 50 percent higher than the national average.
- Three quarters of the infections are in 15-24 year olds.
Gonorrhea is No. 2 STD in Douglas County
- Omaha ranked 26th nationally in the 2007 “Big Citices Health Inventory” for gonorrhea.
- The county’s gonorrhea rate is more than double the Nebraska rate and is 56 percent higher than the national average.
- Three-quarters of the gonorrhea infections are in 15-24 year olds.
